The LVD is a low voltage monitoring relay for battery or DC supply systems. The integral relay is energised in normal operation (healthy voltage), but de-energises if the DC voltage falls below the preset trip level. An integral timer can be used to delay de-energisation of the relay, allowing for temporary voltage dips due to normal loading.

The LVD can be used to trigger a low battery voltage alarm, or to disconnect a battery from its load before deep discharge and irreversible damage occurs.
